If you want to nitpick about it, this was actually version four of the Oratory's life on the web, as I'd redesigned the site twice beforehand to various degrees of success. I was never all that happy with the way either earlier revision turned out, though, and wanted to get away from the white-text-on-black-back cliche that surrounded our competition's designs. When we left our partnership with PowerWrestling, the site that had hosted us for just over a year at that point, I was inspired to revise our image as a whole and introduced the big, blue and black guy you see at the top of the page. My initial intention was to only feature this sillhouette on the home page, where an icon of its nature would make the most sense, and to shrink the header to a single, thin line on interior pages. The code we wound up using didn't accommodate for that, however, so we were instead stuck with this enormous wrestler at the top of every page on the site.
Peering at the design today, it looks a lot better than I seem to remember, but a lot of that hatred was probably due to looking at the thing for several hours a day throughout 2002 and the first half of 2003.
This site is no longer available on the web.
