One of the things that first grabbed me about the Bijou Cafe was the exceptional photography they had already on hand to compliment their printed and interactive materials. I've always felt that great photos are a key addition to any design, and since retrieving halfway decent photos from a client can often be on par with pulling teeth, I took that as a blessing in disguise and featured the product shots front and center. I like the soft, laid-back feel of the surrounding design (which matches the interior of the cafe itself) quite a bit, and especially like the understated color palette that goes along with it. I'm also happy with the almost-borderless photo template, which implies an outer edge but doesn't necessarily comply with it. It's disappointing that this project fell through and never went live, because it's still among my favorite designs. This site was designed during my tenure as Art Director for GravityFree Web Design.
