As a follow-up to my Hell in a Handbasket packaging design, I put together three months' worth of a small promotional calendar in the same style. To keep the subtle joke running, I chose the sixth, seventh and eigth months of the year 2006 as the date range. Yeah, that means one of the dates on these calendars would have been 6/6/06. In keeping with the humorous tone I set with the packages themselves, in various places on the calendar I included little snippets of the extensive fine print and warning labels that I'd used on the various items in the "Handbasket" gift set. I also set a light challenge for myself; I forced myself to use a font I absolutely abhore (the "Sand" font) and implement it without completely killing the layout. I accomplished it by using that nasty-ass font... not as a typeface... but as a graphical element. The large red and white "flames" that form the entire structure of the page? They're comprised of hundreds of different letters in the damned Sand font. Like I said, I crafted layouts for the months of June, July and August, and you can see each of them in detail by clicking the name of each month earlier in this sentence. I really like the Bathroom Devil logo.
